SUMMARY:Data Discussion & Dessert - „Sustainable RDM - Dateneffizienz und Datensparsamkeit“
DESCRIPTION:Jeder Punkt im Forschungsdatenlebenszyklus verbraucht Ressourcen.

SUMMARY:Einführung in den Datenschutz
What requirements must be met\, and what strategies can be used to securely store\, process\, share\, and retain personal data? This workshop provides an introduction to the key aspects of data protection and privacy and is primarily aimed at researchers.\n\n Registration open until October 28\, 2026: https://terminplaner.dfn.de/public/bookings/f5dd4283-f8e8-4c36-8c81-488c601f97cd\n Language: German

SUMMARY:Data Organisation in Spreadsheets for Social Science Data
DESCRIPTION:Tabular data in spreadsheets is widely used. It is often entered and formatted in a way that makes it easy for the human eye to read. However\, in order to perform accurate analyses and visualizations of tabular data\, or to process it further using programming languages such as R or Python\, the dataset should first be cleaned and organised according to tidy data principles.\n\nThe workshop introduces the tidy data principles and best practices of dealing with data in spreadsheets. Using a social science data set as example\, participants will immediately apply those in practical exercises. The workshop uses material provided by Data Carpentry (https://carpentries.org/).\n\nIn this workshop\, you will learn:\n\n Good data entry practices – formatting data tables in spreadsheets\n How to avoid common formatting mistakes\n Approaches for handling dates in spreadsheets\n Basic quality control and data manipulation in spreadsheets\n Exporting data from spreadsheets\n\nThis is a hands-on workshop. Please bring your own laptop. Also\, please make sure to download the datafiles and install a spreadsheet program on your device before the workshop. You can find the instructions and links to do so here: https://datacarpentry.github.io/spreadsheets-socialsci/#setup-instructions\n\n Registration https://terminplaner.dfn.de/public/bookings/be71b470-01a9-4dee-ad92-e65e43e0658c\n Location: OSL 1\, Open Science Lab der SLUB\, Zellescher Weg 21-25\, 01217 Dresden\n\n

SUMMARY:Forschungsdatenmanagement für Linguistik
It begins by presenting the key fundamentals of RDM (data lifecycle\, FAIR and CARE principles). Building on this foundation\, the workshop then discusses best practices for linguistic RDM using examples from primary data (elicited with speakers) and corpus data — including typical challenges such as handling personal data and a lack of standardization. The discussion will then extend to other important types of linguistic data and their specific FDM requirements.\n\n Location: Open Science Lab\, Zellescher Weg 21-25/OSL 3\n Language: German; English if needed\n Registration: https://www.slub-dresden.de/besuchen/veranstaltungen/details/veranstaltung/60455

SUMMARY:JupyterLab + AI Assistant as Research Data Management Workbench
DESCRIPTION:Research data rarely arrives clean: inconsistent formats\, missing values and undocumented columns slow down analysis and make results hard to reproduce or share. In this one-day training (10:00–16:00)\, researchers get introduced to JupyterLab and Python with an integrated AI assistant and learn to use it as a reproducible workbench for data exploration and RDM tasks. Working with a realistic messy dataset\, you will explore it\, validate it against explicit rules\, generate a quality report\, clean it\, and publish it as a documented FAIR data package with a draft Data Management Plan. Throughout\, you let the AI draft according code and docs while you learn to read\, run and critically check what it produces.\n\n\n\n\nRequirements: Basic Python programming knowledge; Confidence in using your own laptop\, particularly the command prompt/terminal\, and the ability to install software on the laptop; Bring your own laptop\n\n Date: December 2\, 2026\, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.\n Location: Data Science Center ScaDS.AI – University of Leipzig\, entrance at Löhrstraße 18\, 04105 Leipzig\, 5th floor\n Language: English/German\n Registration: https://terminplaner.dfn.de/public/bookings/af6f6519-b12b-43a3-8205-1ac6ca700888\n\n\nVoraussetzungen:\n\n\n Your own laptop\, with the ability to install software\n Basic knowledge of programming in Python\n Proficiency in using your own laptop\, including the terminal/command line
